ข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยเป็นข้อสอบที่มีข้อดีและเหมาะแก่การนำมาใช้กับนักศึกษาระดับมหาวิทยาลัยแต่กลับพบว่านักศึกษาจำนวนมากทำข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยไม่ดีจากการตรวจคำตอบข้อสอบอัตนัยของนักศึกษาคณะวิทยาการจัดการมหาวิทยาลัยราชภัฏเชียงใหม่พบลักษณะการตอบข้อสอบที่บกพร่องหลายประการได้แก่ตอบไม่ครบคำถามตอบในมุมมองที่แคบมากตอบโดยไม่อ้างอิงสิ่งที่เรียนมาขาดแกนความคิดหรือสาระในคำตอบขาดการลำดับเรื่องไม่กล้าแสดงความคิดเห็นตอบข้อสอบไม่พอเพียงไม่ละเอียดรอบคอบในการตอบและไม่แสวงหาคำตอบที่ถูกต้องมาเป็นความรู้หลังจากทำข้อสอบไม่ได้ปัญหาต่างๆเหล่านี้สะท้อนทั้งปัญหาการคิดอ่านเขียนของนักศึกษาว่ามีค่อนข้างมาก

นักศึกษาอาจไม่รู้ตัวว่าการตอบคำถามมีข้อบกพร่องเหล่านี้แฝงอยู่ในคำตอบจึงควรมีการแนะนำวิธีการป้องกันและแก้ไขปัญหาการตอบข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยชี้ให้เห็นถึงข้อดีและประโยชนการทำข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยเพื่อให้เกิดความมั่นใจและไม่เกรงกลัวหรือเบื่อหน่ายที่จะต้องทำข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยและควรส่งเสริมให้อาจารย์ใช้ข้อสอบแบบอัตนัยให้มากขึ้นและให้เวลาในการตรวจข้อสอบมากขึ้นเพื่อให้เพียงพอต่อการตรวจข้อสอบ

         The subjective examination is one of good examination tools appropriate for university students.  However, it was found that many students could not perform very well on this kind of examination.  According to grading papers of students from Faculty of Management Sciences, Chiang Mai Rajabhat University, it was found that the examinees were deficient in many ways; for example, the answers were not fully complete, the answers did not address to the questions, the answers only reflected narrow point of views, the answers were not related to what students have learned, the set of questions lack key concepts, which are an essence of the answers. It was found that the exams lack of sequential arrangement, answers were not solid, students were shy to express their opinions, as they were not careful in answering questions, and students did not study further for correct answers after failing the exams.  All of the above-mentioned problems can reflect the serious problems in thinking, reading and writing among students.

         Somehow, students may not be fully aware that answering exam questions consists of these problems in their answers.  Therefore, students should be advised in order to prevent and solve problems dealing with subjective examination performance.  They should be advised about advantages and benefits of doing subjective examination to create confidence so that they will not be afraid or bored in doing subjective examinations. Besides, instructors should be suggested to utilize more subjective examination and should provide more time in doing exam in order to be sufficient for revision.
